Conventional Credit Reporting Agencies and Where to Order Your Reports
If you need to contact one of the credit bureaus, you should avoid doing so using their online portals. Those ports typically use “pop up” licenses that waive a user’s rights under federal and state law. This means that the best way contact a credit bureau is through the good old, US Postal Service. Below is a list of the most common credit bureaus and their addresses where you can request a copy your credit report or dispute a false item on your credit report.
(If you would like a prepared letter to order your reports, we have those available here.)
Major Credit Bureaus
The major credit bureaus collect data from most banking insttutions, creditors, and debt collectors. Additionlly, they also publish public record information collected from courts. These reports are used by most creditors to validate the identity of credit applicants and evaluate whether to extend credit. Additionally, insurance companies in most states use this same data to determine the price of insurance products that it makes available.
