Consumers Can Dispute Inquiries

A Pennsylvania federal court has ruled that consumers have the right to dispute illegal inquiries into their credit report. The court held that Trans Union did not properly understand what it means for a report to be accurate and rejected its unduly narrow understanding of the term. Consumers should check their credit reports for inquiries that don’t belong and dispute them as not being permitted under the statute. If you need help disputing an inquiry on your report, you can find help and sample letters on our Resources page.
